The junior college baseball season has already begun and many former High Desert athletes are playing at JCs across the Southland. Victor Valley College features eight players who went to high school in the area, highlighted by 2011 Daily Press Athlete of the Year Adolfo Espinoza, who redshirted at CSU San Bernardino last year. Also playing for VVC are Adam Schoech (Oak Hills), Jose Bueno (Serrano), Chad Howard (Apple Valley), Logan Young (Granite Hills), Fernando Ortega (Sultana) Nick Roberts (Sultana) and Richard Lucatero (Silverado). Barstow Community College features nine local players, highlighted by former Granite Hills ace Josh King. Other locals on the team are Santino Bajarano (Victor Valley), Michael Martinez (Victor Valley), Alex Pollard (Victor Valley), Josh Hendley (Silver Valley), Trayson Park (Silverado), Gilbert Rodriguez (Apple Valley), Marcos Sanchez (Sultana) and Steven Shigley (Sultana). Two-time Daily Press All-Area selection Christian Fillingame (Oak Hills) is at Orange Coast College, and former Hesperia two-way star Ricardo Baires is at Chaffey College.
